1 Day Mountain of Joy Tour
(Kirirom Mountain)

Pick up 7:00-7:30 am

Drop off between 7:00-7:30 pm (9.30-10.00 pm if dinner included)

Stops: Yeay Mao Shrine, The King's Chalet, the King's Buddhist temple, the plateau of ruins and the King's treasury. 

Description: “Kirirom” in Khmer means: “the mountain of joy”. Enjoy learning more about royal Khmer history during Cambodia’s post-independence era. You’ll walk the paths of King Sihanouk and his friends when the mountain was a site of joy, best captured in the 1968 film “La Joie de Vivre”. You will trek thru both civil war and royal history, seeing remnants of King Sihanouk’s beautiful villas and hear the echoes of Cambodian rock n roll in the pine forest on the mountain.

Optional add on: Stops at Wat Snguon Pich & Amphe Phnom. Learn of little known stories about respected Buddhist monks and fortune tellers during the war. Walk In the shadows of the horrific acts which took place at each of these little known sites during the Khmer Rouge era. The ZIN research team looks forward to sharing what we have learned from Khmer elders and archival research.

Please note that due to timing, ZIN reduces the above stops by one (the King’s Buddhist temple) when we visit these two killing field sites.

Description: A longer time on the mountain means more time to relax, time to enjoy the refreshing mountain air and the comforts of a Kirirom resort. It means a bit more time getting to know one another and the ZIN leaders. We aim to create a relaxing and joyous ZIN experience for you and sharing Cambodia’s stories amid Kirirom’s beauty.

Wildlife/Birdlife Tours

We work in cooperation with birdlife specialists and offer birdwatching and wildlife treks.  These are add-on options for any of the tours. Call for more information.

Cooking Classes

We can add Khmer cooking classes with our local partners to your tour.  Cooking classes will include cooking a three course meal with a local Khmer partner. We’ll cook together and sit down for a meal including Khmer deportees and locals. ZIN aims for the food to be delicious, the cooking process to be insightful and fun and the dinner table to be a space to connect thru sharing our stories.

Khmer Handicraft Workshops

Create your own souvenirs! Learn to make Khmer bracelets, candles, soaps, or baskets. In the making of ZIN, the team has gotten to know many locals. They’ve interviewed them, learned about their crafts and trades and are ready to share a range of Khmer cultural activities with you. (Allow at least two hours for each workshop.)
